Scholarship sanctioned but not paid? What to do

NSP and MahaDBT pay scholarships by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the bank account your Aadhaar is seeded to. When money does not arrive, the cause is usually one of three: the application is still pending verification, the Aadhaar–bank seeding is missing, or the bank account cannot receive the credit. Check them in this order.

Every step below was read on the official pages listed at the end, on 22 Oct 2026.

Shishya never asks for your Aadhaar, bank details or any ID. Nothing on this page asks you for anything. Type those details only on the official portal, at its own address.

1. Is it really sanctioned?

  1. NSP: log in with your OTR and read the application status. Pending at institute or district level means it has not been sent for payment yet — go to your institute's nodal officer. NSP ↗
  2. Telangana ePASS: "Reasons for Rejection" and "Bank Remittance Details" on the ePASS home page. ePASS ↗
  3. MahaDBT: "My Applied Scheme" after login. MahaDBT ↗

2. Check the payment itself

  1. NSP's "Track Your Payment" goes to PFMS. Use Know Your Payment or the DBT status tracker on pfms.gov.in (the tracker covers the last two years). A failed payment there usually names the reason. PFMS ↗

3. Check Aadhaar–bank seeding (the commonest block)

  1. NSP's home page links "Check Aadhaar Seeding Status" to myAadhaar. myAadhaar ↗
  2. Or NPCI's Bharat Aadhaar Seeding Enabler (BASE): on npci.org.in go to Consumer → BASE. It has "Request for Aadhaar Seeding", "Check Your Service Status", "Get Aadhaar Mapped Status" and "Get Aadhaar Mapping History". NSP publishes a step-by-step PDF for it. NSP's NPCI BASE guide (PDF) ↗
  3. Not seeded, or seeded to an old account? Seed the account you want paid at your bank (or through BASE). DBT is paid to the account your Aadhaar is mapped to — not necessarily the one you typed in the form.
  4. Also make sure the account is active and has no limit on credits. NSP's procedure names "seeding of AADHAAR" and "any limit on receiving credit in accounts" as things the bank must sort out.
  5. Maharashtra students: MahaDBT's notice suggests an India Post Payments Bank account at a post office when seeding blocks DBT.

4. Whom to contact, in this order

  1. Your institute's scholarship / nodal officer — they verify at Level 1 and see the application's state.
  2. The district or state nodal officer. NSP publishes district-wise nodal officers and grievance redressal officers on its site. NSP ↗
  3. The portal's helpline: NSP 0120-6619540 / helpdesk@nsp.gov.in; PFMS 1800 118 111; Telangana ePASS 040-23120311; MahaDBT 022-49150800.
  4. A written grievance: NSP grievance registration, or your state portal's grievance page. NSP grievance ↗
  5. Still stuck: the government's CPGRAMS portal (Lodge Public Grievance), open 24x7, tracked by registration number. CPGRAMS says grievances sent by email are not attended to — use the portal or its app. CPGRAMS ↗

Do not

  • Do not pay anyone who offers to "release" or "speed up" a scholarship. Payment is by DBT from the government; nobody outside it can release it.
  • Do not share OTPs, your bank PIN or your portal password, by phone or WhatsApp, with anyone.
