UGC-NET — National Eligibility Test (NTA, for the University Grants Commission)

UGC-NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the University Grants Commission and decides eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD. December 2026 cycle: NTA's examination calendar (public notice of 16 September 2026) lists the exam for 14–19 December 2026, with 20–21 December as buffer days; NTA calls these dates tentative and says the detailed information bulletin will be issued separately — on 27 September 2026 it has not been published. Pattern as in the June 2026 information bulletin: one computer-based sitting of 3 hours with no break — Paper 1 (teaching and research aptitude) 50 questions for 100 marks and Paper 2 (the chosen subject) 100 questions for 200 marks; every question carries 2 marks and there is no negative marking. Medium: English and Hindi, except language papers. Eligibility (June 2026 bulletin): a master's degree with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and third gender candidates); final-year master's students may apply provisionally. JRF: not more than 30 years (relaxations apply); no upper age limit for Assistant Professor or PhD admission.
