The Ministry of Home Affairs' Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme, under the National Defence Fund, pays a monthly scholarship for professional degree study to the wards and widows of CAPF and Assam Rifles personnel and, since 2019-20, to the wards of state police personnel martyred in terror or Naxal attacks. ₹3,000 a month for girls and ₹2,500 a month for boys, paid once a year (₹36,000 / ₹30,000), for up to five years. 2,000 new awards a year for CAPF and Assam Rifles families (1,000 girls, 1,000 boys) and 500 for wards of martyred state police.

Eligibility

Wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles personnel — deceased, disabled, gallantry awardees, and retired or serving personnel below officer rank — and wards of State/UT police personnel martyred in terror or Naxal attacks. For the first year of a professional degree (engineering, medicine, dental, veterinary, BBA, BCA, B.Pharm, B.Sc nursing or agriculture, MBA, MCA and similar) with at least 60% in the entry qualification; renewal needs at least 50% in each year. Only two children per family.
