Non-Verbal Reasoning
About 6 min · Intellectual Test (Reasoning) · English
Time worked out from the lesson's 418 words at 150 words a minute, plus a minute for each question.
Non-Verbal Reasoning tests your ability to analyze visual patterns, spatial relationships, and logical sequences without relying on language skills. This section is crucial for Maharashtra Police Bharti because it evaluates observation skills, attention to detail, and quick decision-making abilities—qualities essential for police work.
Key ideas
- Figural Series: A sequence of figures following a pattern (rotation, addition/deletion of elements, shading changes). Your task is to identify what comes next or which figure breaks the pattern.
- Mirror Image: The reflection of a figure as seen in a mirror placed beside it. Left becomes right and right becomes left, but top-bottom orientation remains unchanged.
- Water Image: The reflection as seen in water below the figure. Top becomes bottom and bottom becomes top, while left-right remains same. Don't confuse with mirror image.
- Paper Folding: A paper is folded one or more times, then punched/cut. You must predict how the unfolded paper looks by mentally reversing each fold.
- Embedded Figures: A small figure is hidden within a complex larger figure. You must identify exactly where and how the smaller figure fits inside.
Quick reference
- Mirror Image: Left ↔ Right swap; Top-Bottom stays same.
- Water Image: Top ↔ Bottom swap; Left-Right stays same.
- Series solving: Track shape + count + rotation + shading separately.
- Paper folding: Unfold in reverse order; holes appear symmetrically about fold lines.
- Embedded figures: Exact match required—trace the boundary, don't approximate.

1. A square paper is folded in half vertically, then a small triangle is cut from the folded edge (the middle). When the paper is unfolded, what shape will appear? Note: The paper was folded once bringing left edge to right edge, and the cut was made on the fold line.
2. Find the next figure in the series: Figure 1: A circle with 1 dot inside. Figure 2: A circle with 2 dots inside arranged horizontally. Figure 3: A circle with 3 dots inside arranged in a triangle. Figure 4: ?
3. A complex figure is given which consists of a large triangle containing a circle, and inside the circle is a small square. Which of the following simple figures is NOT embedded in the given complex figure? Given figure: A triangle, inside it a circle, inside the circle a square. Options to choose from:
