Computer Knowledge is a topic in the Maharashtra Police Bharti exam. Questions test your understanding of basic computer components, common software applications, and internet fundamentals. You don't need deep technical expertise—the focus is on practical awareness that any computer-literate person should have.
Key ideas
- Hardware vs Software: Hardware is physical (keyboard, monitor, CPU); software is programs/instructions (Windows, MS Word). Hardware you can touch, software you cannot.
- Input-Process-Output Model: Computer takes input (keyboard, mouse), processes it (CPU), and gives output (monitor, printer). This is the fundamental working cycle.
- Primary vs Secondary Memory: RAM is primary (temporary, fast, volatile); Hard Disk/SSD is secondary (permanent, slower, non-volatile). RAM loses data when power is off.
- Operating System (OS): Software that manages hardware and runs other programs. Examples: Windows, Linux, macOS, Android. Without OS, computer cannot function.
- Application Software: Programs for specific tasks—MS Word for documents, Excel for calculations, Chrome for browsing. Different from system software.
