Early reading: a 2-minute check and daily practice

Listen, never record: you listen to your child and tap what you heard. Shishya never turns on the microphone, and nothing you tap is saved or sent; the result disappears when you close the page.

How well does my child read today?

Language:

Sit beside your child with this screen. You will see what to ask, your child reads aloud, and you tap what you heard. It takes about 2 minutes.

This is a quick home check of the highest level your child read comfortably today, not a test score or a diagnosis. Children read differently on different days. If you are worried, talk to your child's teacher.

How the check works: it follows the published method of ASER's reading tool (start with a short paragraph, go up to a story or down to words and letters; 4 of 5 letters or words, or a whole text read like sentences with 3 mistakes or fewer). ASER Centre, ASER 2024 assessment tasks (reading tool and how to test reading), read 27 Oct 2026. The letters, words, paragraphs and story are Shishya's own (written with AI help and checked for script and length), made in the style of ASER's published reading tool, not copied from it.
