Child Development and Pedagogy
Piaget's 4 Stages (SPFC) — Sensorimotor (0-2), Preoperational (2-7), Formal operational (11+), Concrete operational (7-11). Remember "Some People Feel Cold" in age order.
Assessment FOR vs OF Learning — Assessment FOR = Formative (continuous, during teaching); Assessment OF = Of final achievement (summative, after teaching). FOR helps learning; OF judges learning.
CCE Components (SCAS) — Scholastic, Co-scholastic, Assessment tools, School-based. Remember "Schools Can Assess Students" for Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation structure.
Vygotsky's ZPD — "Zone = Peer Distance": Zone of Proximal Development is the gap between what child does alone vs. with More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). Scaffolding bridges this zone.
Bloom's Taxonomy (KCAASE) — Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, Evaluation. Mnemonic: "King Charles Ate Apple Sauce Everywhere" — lowest to highest cognitive levels.
Language II — English
Primary Auxiliaries (BDH) — Be, Do, Have. These three change form with tense/person. Modal auxiliaries (can, may, shall, will, must) don't change form.
Determiners Order (OSASCOMP) — Opinion, Size, Age, Shape, Color, Origin, Material, Purpose. Example: "beautiful large old round blue French wooden dining table."
Gerund vs Participle — Gerund = verb+ing as noun (subject/object); Participle = verb+ing as adjective (modifies noun). Test: if it answers "what?", it's gerund; if "which/what kind?", participle.
Vowels Mnemonic (AEIOU) — 5 vowels: A, E, I, O, U. Short vs. Long: "CAT vs CAKE" pattern. All other 21 letters are consonants.
Subject-Verb Agreement Rule — Singular subject takes singular verb; plural takes plural. Trick: "He/She/It adds 's', We/You/They drop 's'". Example: He runs, They run.
Mathematics
Divisibility by 3 and 9 — Sum all digits; if sum divisible by 3, number is divisible by 3; if sum divisible by 9, divisible by 9. Example: 4527 → 4+5+2+7=18 (÷3 and ÷9).
Divisibility by 11 — Alternate digit sum difference. If (sum odd places - sum even places) = 0 or ±11, divisible by 11. Example: 1331 → (1+3)-(3+1)=0 ✓
BODMAS Order — Brackets, Of (powers/roots), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction. Left-to-right for equal operations (D=M, A=S). Always resolve brackets first.
Fraction Comparison Trick — Cross-multiply: for a/b vs c/d, compare a×d vs b×c. Larger product indicates larger fraction. Example: 3/7 vs 5/11 → 3×11=33, 7×5=35, so 5/11 bigger.
Area Formulas (TRSC) — Triangle=½×base×height, Rectangle=length×width, Square=side², Circle=πr². For circle circumference: "Circumference = 2πr, diameter × π".
Place Value System — Each position is 10× the next. From right: Ones, Tens, Hundreds, Thousands. Trick: "O-T-H-Th" sounds like "oath" — units to thousands.
Environmental Studies
Layers of Atmosphere (TSMTE) — Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere. Mnemonic: "The Strong Man Throws Easily" — ground to space order.
5 Sense Organs (SETTS) — Skin (touch), Eyes (sight), Tongue (taste), Tongue dropped → use Ears (hearing), Nose (smell). Better: "See, Hear, Smell, Taste, Touch".
Types of Teeth (ICPM) — Incisors (cut), Canines (tear), Premolars (crush), Molars (grind). Front to back sequence. "I Can Properly Munch" for order.
Food Groups (CGP-VF) — Cerebrals/Cereals (energy), Growth foods (proteins), Protective foods, Vitamins, Fats. Balanced diet needs all five groups daily.
Mathematics and Science (Paper II)
Algebra Identity (a+b)² — a² + 2ab + b². Remember "Square First, Double Second, Square Third". Similarly (a-b)² = a² - 2ab + b².
Angles in Triangle — Sum always 180°. For quadrilateral: 360°. Trick: "Try-angle = 180, Quad = 2×180 = 360". Each extra side adds 180°.
Acid-Base Indicators — Litmus: acid=red, base=blue. "A-R, B-B" (Acid-Red, Base-Blue). Phenolphthalein: colorless in acid, pink in base. Methyl orange: red in acid, yellow in base.
pH Scale Memory — 0-14 scale. <7 acid, 7 neutral, >7 base. "7 is Heaven (neutral); below is Sour, above is Bitter". Lower number = stronger acid.
Social Studies (Paper II)
Fundamental Rights (6 Rights - FECES) — Freedom, Equality, Constitutional Remedies, **E
