Syllogism —
Overview
Syllogism यूपी पुलिस कॉन्स्टेबल परीक्षा में एक मौलिक reasoning विषय है जहाँ आपको "All", "Some", "No" और "Some not" जैसे शब्दों का उपयोग करके categorical propositions से logical conclusions निकालने होते हैं।
Key Concepts
- Categorical Propositions: Statements "All A are B", "No A are B", "Some A are B", या "Some A are not B" के रूप में structured होते हैं।
- Distribution of Terms: "All A are B" में, term A distributed है (पूरी तरह contained) लेकिन B नहीं है। "No A are B" में, दोनों terms distributed हैं।
- Complementary Pairs: "All" और "Some not" एक complementary pair बनाते हैं; "No" और "Some" एक अन्य बनाते हैं। अगर "All A are B" false है, तो "Some A are not B" जरूर true होना चाहिए, और vice versa।
- Either-Or Cases: जब दो conclusions complementary pairs हों और none definitely follow करते हों, लेकिन logically एक जरूर true होना चाहिए, तो answer है "either conclusion I or II follows"।
Formulas / Key Facts
- Universal Affirmative (A): "All A are B" — A completely B के अंदर है, लेकिन B A से आगे extend हो सकता है।
- Universal Negative (E): "No A are B" — A
- Particular Affirmative (I): "Some A are B" — A
- Particular Negative (O): "Some A are not B" — A
- Conversion Rule: "All A are B" को "Some B are A" में convert किया जा सकता है (valid)। "No A are B" को "No B are A" में convert किया जा सकता है (valid)। "Some A are B" को "Some B are A" में convert किया जा सकता है (valid)।
- Conclusion from All-All: अगर "All A are B" और "All B are C" है, तो "All A are C" (definite)।
- Conclusion from No-All: अगर "No A are B" और "All B are C" है, तो "No A are C" (definite)।
- Some-Some Limitation: दो "Some" statements कभी definite conclusion नहीं देते, केवल possibilities देते हैं। "Some A are B" और "Some B are C" से A और C के बीच कोई guaranteed relationship नहीं।
Worked Examples
Example 1 (Basic All-All Chain): Statements: सभी chairs tables हैं। सभी tables wood हैं। Conclusions: I. सभी chairs wood हैं। II.
- Conclusion I: सभी chairs wood हैं — TRUE (diagram से definite)
Example 2 (No + All Combination): Statements: कोई flower tree नहीं है। सभी trees plants हैं। Conclusions: I. कोई flower plant नहीं है। II.
Example 3 (Either-Or Case): Statements: सभी books papers हैं। Conclusions: I. सभी pens books हैं। II.
- Conclusion I: सभी pens books हैं — FALSE (separation से विरोधाभास)
Answer: केवल conclusion I possibly true हो सकता है।
Common Mistakes
गलत approach → दिए गए सभी statements को प्रश्न के within true मानें; real-world facts को ignore करें।
- "All A are B" का मतलब "All B are A" मानना: यह सबसे common error है।
- Multiple Venn Possibilities को ignore करना: "Some A are B" के लिए, छात्र केवल एक diagram खींचते हैं (partial overlap) और complete overlap case को miss करते हैं जहाँ सभी A, B के अंदर हो। सही तरीका → "Some" statements के लिए, सभी possible valid configurations पर विचार करें: partial overlap, A inside B, या B inside A।
- दो "Some" Statements से निष्कर्ष निकालना: छात्र गलत तरीके से "Some A are B" और "Some B are C" से definite relationships derive करते हैं।
- "Either-Or" Conditions को confuse करना: छात्र "either I or II" mark करते हैं जब एक conclusion definitely true हो या दोनों false हों। सही तरीका → "Either-or" केवल तभी लागू होता है जब conclusions complementary pairs हों (All/Some not या No/Some) AND neither definitely follow करता हो लेकिन logically एक जरूर true होना चाहिए।
Quick Reference
- All → Some conversion हमेशा valid है: "All A are B" हमेशा "Some B are A" और "Some A are B" को imply करता है।
- No + All = No: जब एक statement negative (No) हो और दूसरा universal (All) हो, तो conclusion negative होता है।
- Some + Some = कोई definite conclusion नहीं: दो particular statements कभी certainty नहीं देते, केवल possibility देते हैं।
- Absurd statements को true मानें — real-world truth नहीं, logic structure matter करता है।
