History — Indian and World History (Classes 6-8)
Overview
History forms a significant portion of the Social Studies paper in TS TET Paper II. This section tests your knowledge of Indian history from ancient civilisations through the freedom struggle, Telangana's distinct historical trajectory, and selected world history events. For the TET, you need both content mastery and an understanding of how to teach history effectively to upper primary students.
The exam typically asks factual questions about dynasties, rulers, reforms, and movements, along with questions linking historical events to their causes and consequences. Telangana-specific history—Satavahanas, Kakatiyas, Qutb Shahis, Asaf Jahis, and the Telangana movement—receives particular emphasis. Expect 10-15 questions directly from history content, with additional pedagogy questions on teaching methods.
Key Concepts
- **Periodisation of Indian History**: Ancient (up to 1206 CE), Medieval (1206-1757 CE), and Modern (1757 onwards)—this framework helps organise dynasties and events chronologically.
- **Continuity and Change**: History shows both persistence of traditions (caste system, religious practices) and transformation through invasions, reforms, and movements.
- **Primary and Secondary Sources**: Inscriptions, coins, monuments are primary sources; textbooks and research papers are secondary—essential for teaching historical thinking.
- **Telangana's Distinct Identity**: The region maintained a separate cultural and political identity through various dynasties, culminating in the statehood movement.
- **Nationalism and Freedom Struggle**: The evolution from early resistance to organised movements under INC leadership to Gandhi's mass mobilisation represents a progression in anti-colonial strategy.
- **Cause-Effect Relationships**: Every major event (Battle of Plassey, Revolt of 1857, Partition) has identifiable causes and far-reaching consequences.
- **Social Reform Movements**: Bhakti, Sufi, and 19th-century reform movements challenged social inequalities and religious orthodoxy.
- **Industrial Revolution's Global Impact**: Transformed economic systems worldwide, including colonial exploitation of India.
