Child Development and Pedagogy
CCE Components (SA+FA=CCE) — CCE = Summative Assessment + Formative Assessment. Remember: SA tests final learning (exams), FA monitors continuous progress (classwork, projects, oral tests). Both mandated under RTE.
RTE 3 to 6 — RTE Act 2009 covers ages 6–14 (elementary education). Trick: "3+3=6" → Pre-primary (3–6 years) NOT covered; 6 onwards IS covered. Free and compulsory education guaranteed.
Development Principles DISCO — Direction (head to toe, center to extremities), Individual differences, Sequential (cannot skip stages), Continuous process, Orderly pattern. All development follows these principles consistently.
Adolescence Age 11-19 — WHO defines adolescence as 10–19 years; some texts use 11–19. Remember "A-dolescence starts after TEN" or "teenage = adolescence core period" (13–19).
PACES Development Dimensions — Physical, Affective (emotional), Cognitive, Ethical (moral), Social. Every child develops across these five dimensions simultaneously; assess all in inclusive classrooms.
Heredity vs Environment HE — Nature (Heredity) = biological blueprint; Nurture (Environment) = experiences. Trick: "HE determines potential, EN determines performance" (Heredity-Environment-Nurture).
Language I & II Pedagogy
LSRW Skills Order — Listening → Speaking → Reading → Writing. Natural language acquisition follows this sequence; teaching should respect it, especially in primary grades and multilingual classrooms.
Acquisition vs Learning AL — Acquisition = unconscious, natural (L1/mother tongue); Learning = conscious, formal instruction (L2/classroom). Krashen's distinction: "Acquire naturally, Learn formally."
Alankar AVUYA — Anupras, Vakrokti, Upma, Yamak, Atishayokti (Hindi/Odia main figures of speech). For exams, memorize examples of each; Upma = simile, Atishayokti = hyperbole.
Parts of Speech NPA VIC — Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Verb, Interjection, Conjunction, adverb, preposition (8 types). Remember: "Never Push A Very Intelligent Cat Away, Please."
Mathematics
Divisibility by 11 Rule — Alternating digit sum must be 0 or multiple of 11. Example: 121 → (1+1)−2=0, divisible. For 4-digit: (d₁+d₃)−(d₂+d₄). Quick mental check for OTET MCQs.
HCF×LCM = Product — For two numbers A×B = HCF×LCM always. If three values given, find fourth instantly. Example: 12×18 = 6×36 = 216. Saves calculation time.
Fraction to Decimal (Place-Value) — 1/4=0.25, 1/8=0.125, 1/5=0.2, 1/3=0.333... Memorize common fractions; speeds up percentage and ratio problems significantly in both Paper I and II.
Percentage ↔ Fraction Fast — 12.5%=1/8, 16.67%=1/6, 20%=1/5, 25%=1/4, 33.33%=1/3, 50%=1/2. Recognize these instantly for profit-loss and discount problems.
