How to prepare (with or without coaching)
Without Coaching (Recommended for Most Students)
Coaching for Ladakh UT Civil Services is not essential and often unavailable in the region. The prelims exam follows a straightforward General Studies pattern that rewards consistent self-study.
Start with NCERT textbooks (Classes 6-12) for History, Geography, Polity, Economics, and Science. These build your foundation and cover 40-50% of questions directly. Read them actively, making notes chapter-wise.
Use Shishya's free resources as your primary practice tool. Their PYQs (Previous Year Questions) for Ladakh PSC and similar UT exams show you the exact difficulty level and recurring topics. Solve these religiously — attempt a full set, check answers, analyze mistakes, and revisit weak areas. Their free mocks simulate exam conditions; take at least 10-15 before your actual exam.
For current affairs, follow a standard monthly current affairs magazine (PDF versions available free online) and focus on national issues, government schemes, and Union Territory-related developments. Ladakh-specific current affairs are crucial — follow local newspapers online (Reach Ladakh, Stawa) and government press releases from Ladakh UT administration website.
Syllabus-specific approach:
- Indian Polity: M Laxmikanth (borrow from library or use free PDFs) + Constitution basics from NCERT
- History: Old NCERTs (6-12) are sufficient; focus on freedom movement and post-independence India
- Geography: NCERT 11-12 + basic atlas work; emphasize Ladakh's geography (climate, terrain, resources, districts)
- Economy: NCERT 9-12 + basic understanding of Union Budget, economic terms
- Environment & Science: NCERT 6-10 Science + environment current affairs
- Ladakh-specific sections: UT administration structure, local governance, cultural heritage, geography, developmental schemes — use official Ladakh UT website, PIB releases, and local sources
Shishya's free notes (if available for state exams or general GS topics) provide condensed revision material. Download and print these for quick reviews.
With Coaching (If Affordable)
Physical coaching for Ladakh PSC is limited. Delhi-based institutes offering general state PSC courses can help, but they won't cover Ladakh-specific portions deeply. Online courses for UPPSC/State PSC prelims can supplement your study but don't replace self-study of Ladakh content. Coaching's main value: discipline, peer competition, and structured tests. However, at ₹40,000-80,000, coaching is an expensive option when self-study with free resources works equally well for a straightforward 100-mark GS paper.
