How to prepare (with or without coaching)
Self-study is absolutely viable for JKSSB exams. Coaching centers help with structure, but most aspirants clear this exam through focused self-preparation. Here's your honest roadmap:
Foundation Phase (Weeks 1-4): Start with NCERT books (Classes 6-10) for basic reasoning, math, and general science. For J&K-specific topics, rely on official J&K government portals, J&K Gazette, and standard regional history books available in local bookstores or PDFs online. English preparation begins with basic grammar rules from Wren & Martin (abbreviated version) and daily vocabulary building through newspapers.
Core Preparation (Weeks 5-12): Use Shishya's free notes and PYQs as your primary study material—these are gold for understanding JKSSB's pattern. The board repeats question styles and topics, so previous years' papers reveal exactly what they prioritize. For General Awareness, follow a Current Affairs monthly compilation (free PDFs available from various government job portals) and standard static GK from Lucent's General Knowledge or Manorama Yearbook (borrow from library if purchasing isn't feasible).
For Reasoning, practice from free RS Aggarwal PDFs or Shishya's reasoning module. Numeracy requires Class 10 NCERT Math + basic arithmetic, percentage, ratio—practice 20 questions daily. Without Coaching:
