India Post GDS: how selection works (no exam)
Gramin Dak Sevaks — Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak — are not chosen by a written test. The Department of Posts makes a merit list from your Class 10 marks, matches it to the posts you ranked, and checks your documents. So there is nothing to study for and no mock test here; what matters is entering your marks and preferences correctly.
From the Department of Posts' notification and portal, read on 27 Oct 2026. Their site is the final word.

How the merit list is made
1. No exam, no interview
Selection is a merit list the system makes from your Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) marks. There is no written test to prepare for.
Official source2. Your marks become a percentage
The marks of your Class 10 subjects are aggregated to a percentage, to 4 decimal places. Enter marks exactly as your marksheet prints them; applying with grades when your marksheet has marks can get the application cancelled.
Official source3. Grades are converted at 9.5
Where a board gives only grades, each grade point is multiplied by 9.5 (A1 = 10 points = 95 marks, A2 = 9 = 85.5, and so on); a CGPA is also multiplied by 9.5, and if both subject grades and a CGPA are printed, the higher result is used.
Official source4. One Division, ranked posts
You apply to posts in only one Division and put them in your order of preference. The merit list is per Division and per category; the highest-ranked candidate gets their best available preference, and only one post is offered to each person.
Official source5. Ties
When percentages are equal, the older candidate (date of birth) ranks higher; after that the notice sets an order by category and gender.
Official source6. Lists and document checks
List-I comes first, then supplementary lists for posts left vacant (no-shows, failed checks). A shortlisted candidate must get documents verified at the Divisional Office within 15 days, with a medical certificate from a government medical officer. No list is issued after 31 Dec 2026 for this schedule.

— = no selectee of that category in that Division's List-I.
- India Post does not publish a cut-off. Its List-I PDFs print, for every post, the selected candidate's category and "% of Marks"; these rows are the lowest such percentage per category in that Division's List-I, worked out by Shishya.
- List-I only: supplementary lists usually go lower, and they were not out when this was read.
- Many Kerala selectees sit at exactly 95 — that is grade A1 converted at 9.5; ties are then broken by date of birth and the notice's order.
- Circle-wide List-I ranges: Tamil Nadu 72.6 – 100, Kerala 70.88 – 100, Delhi 96.5 – 100. A Division's figure depends on its posts and applicants; another schedule can differ.
