CDS 2026 Last-Minute Checklist: 72 Hours to Exam Day

CDS is on 13 Sept (official). Here's the cheat-sheet to revise — what to carry, last-mile topics, formulae, mock targets.

What Now?

With a week left for CDS 2026 (II), this is consolidation time, not learning time. Your job is to sharpen what you already know, not cram new chapters. Stay calm, stick to a light revision plan, and take care of logistics so exam day is smooth.

Evening Revision Plan (Next 5 Days)

Use this table to structure your final week. Each session is 90 minutes max; longer hours now will burn you out.

Time What Why
18:00–19:00 Current affairs (Aug–Sept 2026 window) CDS GK is recency-heavy; recent appointments, summits
19:15–20:15 Elementary Maths: formulas, speed–distance, ratios Quick-win topics; formula recall matters under time
20:30–21:15 English: error detection, sentence improvement Grammar rules are mechanical—revise, don't overthink
21:15–21:30 One previous year paper (timed, any section) Maintains exam tempo without exhausting you

Do NOT:

  • Start a new topic (e.g., Trigonometry if you haven't touched it)
  • Watch 2-hour YouTube "crash courses"
  • Solve full mock tests after September 5—your brain needs rest, not fatigue

What to Carry on Exam Day

Pack tonight so you're not scrambling at 6 a.m.

Must-Have (verify on UPSC official site)

  • Admit card (two printed copies)
  • Valid photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, Driving License)
  • Blue/black ballpoint pens (3–4; UPSC OMR sheets need clear, dark marks)
  • Transparent water bottle (no labels)
  • Clip-board or hard surface (some centres have wobbly desks)

Allowed (but check your admit card)

  • ✅ Simple analog watch (no smartwatches)
  • ✅ Small transparent pouch for the above items

Strictly Prohibited

  • ❌ Mobile phone, calculator, electronic devices
  • ❌ Books, notes, rough paper (rough sheets provided at centre)
  • ❌ Smartwatches, fitness bands

Pro tip: Keep your admit card and ID in a clear plastic folder; you'll show them multiple times.

Exam-Day Timing

CDS is typically held on a Sunday, 0900–1700 hrs (two papers; verify exact schedule on your admit card).

  • Paper I (English): 2 hours
  • Paper II (GK): 2 hours
  • Paper III (Elementary Mathematics): 2 hours
(Note: OTA candidates do not take Paper III)

Reporting time is usually 30 minutes before the paper start. If Paper I starts at 10:00, reach by 09:00. UPSC closes gates 10 minutes before start time—late entries are not allowed.

The Morning Of

  • Wake up 3 hours before reporting time
  • Light breakfast (avoid heavy, oily food that will make you drowsy)
  • Reach the centre 45 minutes early; use the buffer for traffic, security queues

Don't Do This (Anti-List)

Students who've taken CDS before flag these mistakes:

  1. Discussing answers between papers. You can't change what you wrote. Obsessing over Paper I errors will wreck your focus for Paper II.

  2. Skipping breakfast or overloading on caffeine. A 6-hour exam day demands stable energy. One tea/coffee is fine; three will give you jitters.

  3. Studying at the exam centre gate. You'll see groups huddled with notes. Ignore them. Last-minute cramming raises anxiety and helps nothing.

  4. Attempting every question to "maximize score." CDS has negative marking (0.33 per wrong answer). If you're guessing blindly on 10 questions, you're likely losing marks. Educated guesses are fine; random bubbling is not.

  5. Carrying prohibited items "just in case." If a mobile phone is found in your pocket—even switched off—you risk debarment. Leave it at home or in your vehicle.

  6. Panicking over one tough section. If the Maths paper feels harder than your mocks, it probably felt hard for everyone. CDS cutoffs are relative, not absolute.

The Night Before

  • 22:00: Pack your exam kit. Lay out clothes (comfortable, weather-appropriate).
  • 22:30: No screens. Read something light, listen to music, or do breathing exercises.
  • 23:00: Lights out. Aim for 7 hours of sleep.

Do not:

  • Stay up revising—fatigue kills speed and accuracy
  • Take sleep aids unless prescribed
  • Set six alarms; one reliable alarm (and a backup) is enough

A Final Word

You've put in months of prep. The last week is about showing up rested, organized, and confident—not about heroic last-minute efforts. Trust your preparation. Read questions carefully. Manage your time. And remember: CDS tests discipline as much as knowledge, which is exactly what the forces need.

See you on the other side. 🫡
