- Category differential: General cutoffs typically run 7–10 marks above OBC, 18–25 marks above SC, and 22–30 marks above ST. EWS slots ~3–5 marks below General.
- Year-to-year shifts: Cutoffs fluctuate ±5 marks based on paper difficulty, vacancy count, and candidate performance distribution. Tough papers push all categories down 3–7 marks; high vacancies or easier sections elevate cutoffs similarly.
- Qualifying vs. selection: These are Prelims qualifying thresholds (Mains entry); final BAS/Group A selection requires significantly higher Mains+Interview performance. Scoring 78+ (52%) in Prelims positions General candidates favorably for competitive Mains ranks.
