Child Development and Pedagogy
RTE 3–14 Rule — Right to Education Act 2009 guarantees free, compulsory education to children aged 3+11=14 (ages 6–14). Remember "RTE = 6 to 14" for instant recall of the age bracket in questions.
Piaget's 4 Stages (SPFC) — Sensorimotor (0–2 yr), Preoperational (2–7 yr), Formal operational (11+ yr), Concrete operational (7–11 yr). Mnemonic: "Some People Find Cows" in age order.
CCE = Co-Scholastic + Continuous — CCE (Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation) = Continuous (throughout year, not one exam) + Comprehensive (academics + co-scholastic: sports, art, attitude). Think "CCE = Continuous Comprehensive."
Assessment FOR vs OF — FOR = formative, Ongoing, feedback to improve learning (like mid-course check). OF = summative, Final judgment at end (like final exam). "FOR improvement, OF judgment."
Heredity = H-genes, Environment = E-xperience — Heredity gives fixed traits (height potential, eye color). Environment shapes expression (nutrition, education). "H = Hardware, E = Experience."
Language I & II (General Pedagogy)
LSRW Order — Language skills develop as Listening → Speaking → Reading → Writing. Mnemonic: "Learn Sounds Right Way" – children listen first, speak next, then read, finally write.
Acquisition vs Learning (Krashen) — Acquisition = natural, subconscious (child learns mother tongue); Learning = conscious, formal instruction (grammar rules in class). "Acquisition = Automatic; Learning = Lessons."
Multilingual = Mother Tongue First — In multilingual classrooms, use Mother Tongue as bridge; code-switching aids comprehension. Think "MT = Mother Tongue = Mental Transition tool."
Formative Evaluation = Feedback — Formative = during learning, gives feedback (Formative = Feedback). Summative = after learning, gives grade (Summative = core).
