State-quota MBBS and BDS seats in Tamil Nadu are allotted by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Government of Tamil Nadu. Everything below is from its own 2026 documents, read on 27 Oct 2026; the rules can change, so check the official site before you act.

Closing ranks for your rank
The committee prints allotment lists with each candidate's community, not the reservation turn a seat was filled under, so the predictor shows, per college and community, the highest rank of a candidate of that community allotted there in Rounds 1 to 3 (computed by Shishya). 82 institutes, 828 seat rows (Rounds 1-3 (allotment lists)). Past ranks, not a guarantee of a seat.

The Selection Committee's own State Merit List, prepared from NEET UG 2026 scores of candidates who applied. Government Quota and Management Quota have separate rank lists, and the 7.5% government-school students have their own list.
How the seats are split
- State quota: 85% of seats in government medical and dental colleges, and the private college seats other than deemed universities. The other 15% of government college seats are All India Quota, filled by MCC.
- Government Quota (GQ) seats in self-financing colleges are 50% or more of their seats; Management Quota is 35% or less, with higher fees; NRI seats are 15% of self-financing college seats.
- Reservation (as printed in the 2026-27 prospectus): Open Competition 31%, Backward Class 30% (3.5% of it for Muslims), Most Backward Class 20%, Scheduled Caste 18% (16% of it for Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribe 1%.
- Special categories (persons with benchmark disabilities, eminent sports persons, children of ex-servicemen) and the 7.5% government-school seats are counselled ahead of the general category.
The 7.5% reservation for government-school students
Tamil Nadu sets apart 7.5% of the Government seats in MBBS and BDS (and the Indian medicine courses) for students who studied in State Government schools, under the Tamil Nadu Admission to Undergraduate Courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy on preferential basis to students of Government Schools Act, 2020 (Tamil Nadu Act No. 34 of 2020). The Selection Committee's 2026-27 prospectus reproduces the Act's main sections; the points below are from there.
- Who qualifies: students who studied from Class 6 to Class 12 (Higher Secondary) in a Government school and qualified NEET UG. Students admitted under the Right to Education Act's 25% quota up to Class 8 in a private school, who then studied the remaining classes in a Government school, are also counted.
- What a 'Government school' is: Government, Corporation, Municipal, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Kallar Reclamation and Forest Department schools, and other schools run by Government departments.
- Which seats: 'Government seats' are all MBBS and BDS seats in Government colleges except the All India Quota, plus 65% of seats in non-minority and 50% in minority self-financing colleges (or the share agreed with the Government).
- Reservation inside the 7.5%: the seats are filled by following the communal reservation in force (the same OC, BC, BCM, MBC, SC, SCA and ST shares).
- The 7.5% students can also compete for all the other Government seats along with everyone else.
- If not enough government-school students are available, the unfilled 7.5% seats go to other students.
- Proof: a bonafide certificate (Annexure II of the prospectus) from the Head of the school last studied, countersigned by the Chief Educational Officer, listing the Government school of each class from 6 to 12.
- Leaving the seat: the prospectus says students who take a 7.5% seat and discontinue after the stipulated time in Round 2 or later must pay the discontinuation fee and the amount the Government spent on their education.
